Age: 25
Years of Service: 25
Primary Occupation: LPN & Emergency Department Specialist
Why did you join the Fire Department: I am really concerned about the well being of others as I am with my own well being. I truly do enjoy taking care of others, especially when they are going through a tough time. By becoming a part of the White Bear Lake FD, I get to do just that, day in and day out.
I joined for the experience, but got more than I expected. I grew up watching my dad and friends constantly responding within our community to Medicals & Fire Calls. A point came in my life where I was ready to take an active role in helping out, rather than just admiring these individuals. It has helped me grown both personally and professionally.
What do you enjoy most about it: The ability to make someone's day just a little better. It may not be our bad day, but it's probably their bad day. We also are out in the community doing so much more than fire and EMS calls. We get the chance to educate kids on fire prevention, teach CPR at events, raise money for local charities, etc. The list is honestly endless, there is no limit to what we can and will do to help out. It really goes beyond just being a Firefighter and an EMT.
Why should someone else become a Fire Fighter/EMT: They should become a FF/EMT because they want to. Because they enjoy taking care of others, working with a team and are willing to push themselves physically and emotionally. It is a very rewarding job at times and if your heart is in the right place, you really will enjoy and appreciate serving the community.
