Cold Weather Fire Safety Tips

The dangerously cold temperatures bring with them an increased risk of house fires.  People are looking for additional heat sources in the form of candles, space heaters and fire places to stay warm during this cold snap.

Here are some things you should remember when using additional heat sources:
  • Space heaters need just that, space – so keep them at least 3 feet from anything
  • Make sure to turn space heaters off when you aren’t in a room that is using them and turn them off before going to bed as they tip over very easily
  • Fireplaces should be annually inspected
  • Make sure to only use dry seasoned wood in your fireplace or wood stove
  • Never leave a fire burning if you leave your home
